The Rosarito Beach mayor announced the closure due to failure at a local sewage treatment plant, caused by a power outage
Access to Rosarito’s popular beaches will be closed to the general public for approximately two weeks, per an announcement made by Araceli Brown Figueredo, Playas de Rosarito municipal president.
According to Brown, a sewage spill on “El Bebe beach” caused a general closure as a precautionary measure to prevent further contamination from a sewage treatment plant in the Leyes de Reforma neighborhood that was caused by a power failure.
According to the mayor, the decision was made after the city council determined that the coastal beaches were “highly polluted” representing a potential health risk, “even for those who only planned to walk along the beaches due to the possibility of sea breezes carrying sewage particles that could possibly cause an infection.”
The beach closure will be in effect for at least two weeks, prohibiting ALL access – swimming, surfing, fishing, running, or walking.
