The “Baja California Cup” of sport fishing for 2022 was officially announced, taking place this year during the months of July, August and September.
The winner at each venue will be awarded a pass to go on to represent Baja California in the National Championship, organized by the National Sport Fishing Federation and to be held this year at Huatulco, Oaxaca, with the possibility of representing Mexico in Italy, in 2022.
The announcement was made by Mario Escobedo, Secretary of Sustainable Economy and Tourism, accompanied by the Director of the Sports Institute, David González Camacho and the President of the State Association of Sport Fishing Clubs of Baja California, Julio Mesa Virgilio.
The venues for the championship will be in Bahía de los Ángeles on July 30 and 31; San Quintin August 27 and 28 and the grand finale in Ensenada, on September 24 and 25, with an estimated participation of more than 500 competitors and over 500 thousand pesos in guaranteed prizes and the overall General Champion will also be awarded a direct pass to participate in the Bisbee’s Offshore Tournament, in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur this coming fall.
The Copa Baja California is a very popular event for anglers on both sides of the border with nearly 3 out of 4 participants coming from the U.S. on average and an increasing number of female participants, some of whom have gotten very close to submitting a winning entry.

Each venue always prepares a a very festive atmosphere with lots of food, celebration, music and more so there is something for everyone – whether you are fishing or attending to cheer a friend or family member to victory!
