As a follow-up to our reporting back in February, the emergency call boxes have now all been installed on the Transpeninsular as was originally projected except for one and with a few changes to the plan.

The call tower that was planned for Gonzaga Bay has not yet been installed as technically that fallsunder the jurisdiction of the new Municipality of San Felipe and it appears there remain a few bureacratic hurdles that must be overcome before that becomes a reailty there.

In the meantime a decision was made to go back to the original plan and install a tower at Coco’s corner and the tower that was planned for midway between the Transpeninsular and Bahjia de Los Angeles has been moved to the entrance to the Bahia instead,

These radio towers will offer a 911 type service, powered by solar and using satellite internet to connect the digital radio grid together that as of now is providing emergency call box service approximately every 30 miles south of El Rosario to the 28th Parallel, a large and remote area that currently offers no cellular / data service.

 
Each tower is painted orange and lit at night with instructions in both Spanish and English, explaining how to use the push button communicator that connects you with bilingual operators in San Quintin working for the office of Public Safety. They will be working in shifts – around the clock – to assist you in the event of an accident and/or medical emergency as well as another situation requiring help out in the middle of nowhere.
