The majority of confirmed COVID-19 cases are the Omicron variant
98 percent of the confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Baja California today are the Omicron variant and sub-variants of the virus as reported by the head epidemiologist for the state’s Health Secretary, Oscar Efrén Zazueta Fierro.
The Scientific Committee that integrates the Secretary of Health of Baja California, Adrián Medina Amarillas, Doctor Néstor Hernández Milan and Doctor Efrén Zazueta Fierro made the announcement during the Wednesday morning press conference of the Governor of the state, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, reporting that infections have increased in the region and at this point, mostly being treated on an outpatient basis.

In the last two weeks, 3,771 active cases have been registered, while in the last 24 hours a total of 761 confirmed cases and now one related death in the state.
The health minister explained that despite the fact that infections have increased, the pandemic alert light remains green due to the low rate of hospitalizations, intubated patients and deaths in the state.
For her part, the governor of the state asked the population to remain at home for seven days in the event they test positive for COVID, even in the absence of severe symptoms.

Face masks indoors
Although the use of face masks remains optional in Baja California, the Secretary of Health, Adrián Medina Amarillas, pointed out that the recommendation to continue with this measure should be considered “high level”, especially indoors in public areas and will remain in force for at least two weeks.
He added that the Ministry of Health will donate face masks to the Institute for Sustainable Mobility (IMOS) to be delivered to public transport drivers and users.
“We understand that this measure is not popular with many but we ask that everyone please try and work together, doing their civic duty to keep everyone safe,” Medina Amarillas said.
