You travel to Mexico for much more than just beautiful beaches and colorful sunsets. South of the US border you will discover an exciting and and dynamic experience, built upon ancient, cultural traditions and expressed in a variety of flavors, colors and sounds that vary from region to region in every corner of the country.
And travelers to Cabo San Lucas today can expect to discover some delightful dishes and drinks that are blending the primary ingredients one associates with classical Aztec cuisine with others from the opposite side of the planet to create a unique Cabo-Fusion cuisine that is quickly becoming a favorite for both locals and tourists vacationing in Cabo San Lucas.
Expect to have your gastronomic senses be stimulated not only with exotic culinary mixes but also with classics ranging from appetizers to micheladas and a long list of internationally famous dishes.
In the more northern regions of Mexico, ingredients such as chili peppers, corn and beans rule the culinary scene. Mexico and “chiles” are considered synonymous, coming from capsicum plants and fruits of a huge variety to choose from, including jalapeños, serranos, guajillos and chipotles.
Countless flavors in each region of the country
From street delicacies such as tacos, tostadas and quesadillas to sophisticated restaurant menus, one often has trouble deciding where to begin. But if you are looking for a dining experience to remember, Cabo San Lucas has lots of options to experience with all the nuances of local gastronomic traditions alongside a modern twist with a cosmopolitan flair.
The avant-garde cuisine found at the Nobu Restaurant is one such example where chef Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa – recognized as one of the great masters of fusion cuisine- has made his mark in Cabo. The list of selections from his menus never cease to amaze his patrons with dramatic, bold culinary blends of traditional Mexican and Japanese ingredients.
In the menu of the Nobu restaurant located inside Cabo’s Nobu Hotel, you will find delicacies such as “Jalapeño Yellowtail” as well as “Sushi Maki” among the hot and cold dishes along with tasty seafood delights such as “Callo de Hacha” (scallops) or “Roasted Cauliflower”, both presented with Jalapeño Sauce, just to mention a few examples.
And for those who want to try something different but prefer more traditional Mexican food, Nobu also offers some interesting pairings like tacos and mezcal.
Fusion and other flavors
Other top contenders in the Cabo Fusion Cuisine market include restaurants such as Chubby Noodle Cabo, Ohoku, Costa Oeste, Pitahayas Restaurant, Tomatillos, De Cortez Grill and Restaurant, Cocina de Autor, Nicksan Cabo, Peninsula Restaurant and Las Hijas de la Tostada, just to mention a few of my favorites.
