Don’t drive in Baja Mexico without auto insurance!

Many travelers heading south into Mexico fail to realize that their vehicle insurance policy stops covering them the moment their front tires reach the border. Although some U.S. insurance carriers may offer a limited extension of the vehicle theft and damages coverage stated in your policy while in Mexico, that coverage is only good within a limited number of miles from the border.

However, U.S./Canadian auto insurance does NOT cover the legal requirement of liability coverage while driving in Mexico so it’s important to have at minimum a Mexican liability policy to prove your financial responsibility. The only other way to prove financial responsibility is with large sums of cash.

And if any of you have ever had to file an insurance claim in Mexico, you know what a nightmarish experience that can be when you discover that cheap policy you found online or purchased from “some guy right next to the border” offers little to zero customer support when you begin the process of haggling with the adjuster in Mexico who will determine your estimate of damages and then choose who they will authorize to perform the repairs.

We only recommend one auto insurance provider for Mexico and that is our good friends at Baja Bound Insurance.

Geoff along with his entire crew have an excellent track record of years of great service to their clients, before AND after the sale and most importantly, they will support you through the claim process in the unfortunate event that you should be involved in an accident or suffer some type of related loss covered by your policy.

Repeated surveys of auto insurance providers for Baja Mexico in our Facebook Group Talk Baja consistently demonstrate that Baja Bound Insurance is the very best at providing coverage for what you drive south of the border:
Cars, pickups, SUV’s, vans, motorcycles, motorhomes and towed items like trailers, boats, ATVs and campers.

They also offer watercraft liability for coverage on the water!
    Baja Bound – Hands down!
