Not exactly sure what you refer to amigo. Could you grab a screen capture and show me?
-
never mind its something to do with chromebook….doesn’t do it on iphone
-
I was just going to ask if it was a notebook as I have tested this software thoroughly on PC’s, Mac’s, Android phones and iPhones with notebooks the only area that I didn’t spend a lot of time with. I haven’t seen a Chromebook yet, how do you like it otherwise?
-
-
I went ahead and created a support ticket with the author of our core software to see if others have experienced the same thing on a Chromebook or see if they can duplicate the issue. I’ll update this thread with their response.
-
I use a Chromebook sometimes but don’t recall ever seeing that? Does it change if you rotate from landscape to portrait display mode?
-
well as it turns out im pretty much an idiot about these things, I couldn’t figure out the screenshot thing so I took a photo of my chromebook screen emailed it to myself and downloaded it to send here😆 I do recall seeing a similar thing on another site but it had something to do photo sizing….man does it take a long time to read something like that! otherwise love the chromebook
-
No worries! Did you try the suggestion by @CaboDream to rotate the screen? Let me know and I’ll share that with the core software developers.
-
I think it is a common problem now with software having to work on so many different screen widths, from cell phones to desktop computers.
-

rotating the screen does work! odd it only happens on a couple of members posts?? anyway thanks! and you made me learn how to rotate a screen!

The core software we built this website from is considered “responsive”
and uses an adaptive style framework when displaying forum discussions that
is supposed to automatically resize the frames and realign according to the text/media content displayed and your display width size, measured in pixels. The developer has acknowledged receipt of the support ticket but has yet to respond. Based on what you just shared, I am going to go out on a limb and will wager that there are very small windows where this bug may happen, caused by a browser having an issue interpreting between predefined screen display steps in pixels from cell phones to tablet to PC.

I had something like that happen on my phone once but I rotated it to landscape and then back upright and the problem disappeared. What @BajaGringo said was probably happening sounds right.
-
There’s a lot going on behind the scenes with this software but it is surprisingly stable.

I really like this forum software BTW. I have participated on lots of forums over the years but never saw this format before. Is this out of the box or did you or somebody have to design this?

Thanks Bill.
When I made the decision to resurrect the TalkBaja.com forum, I had already decided I didn’t want to rush into uploading some php script which would have made us look like just another forum, adding to a long list of similar forums resembling a 1950’s tract housing project.
So I invested a few months time envisioning how I wanted this website to work as well as its appearance and spent some time putting together a long list of items that I separated into 3 categories and became my 3F list : Function, Format and Feel.
Believe it or not, in spite of hundreds of developers out there writing forum software code, 99.9% of their work seems to all look and work pretty much the same. There were a couple of exceptions with some hosted forum options like Discourse but I found their limitations quite stifling and kept looking. In fact I spent nearly a year test-driving forum software and none of them made the cut on my 3F list.
I was getting discouraged and by chance, stumbled across a piece of software that was designed for selling online teaching / courses – I loved a lot of the format and especially the feel but the core function was not at all what I was looking for.
But tucked away inside was a module for course work support forums that included all of the features I was interested in from the core software and I had the crazy idea to try and make it work for Talk Baja. I ended up basically turning the software upside down but in the end I was able to check off nearly every item on my 3F list and I am still working on trying to resolve the few important items I would like to see that remain outstanding. Actually they are all doable today but not without a lot of baggage in memory and speed.
It has been a LOT of work but I am quite happy with the progress so far.

Yes, very well done and your efforts are much appreciated. This is the first forum on Baja Mexico that I have actually participated in as I usually only read and don’t post.

I did see that same problem on my tablet once but didn’t think to rotate the screen. I’ll check it out.
-
You can do it on your phone too but some need an app to rotate I think.
-
My son just showed me how and was like “mom, I can’t believe you didn’t know that!”

The website has been working fine for me on both my iPhone and iPad.

Hey, don’t knock it, over the years I have learned to value the solid performing computers that have a lot of experience under their belt. They seem to have been built better and while they may not run Windows 11, that’s fine with me. I tried 11 and came back to 10.
Stick with what works is my basic motto…

I have a good friend who still uses Windows xp. I guess I should not point fingers, on one of my notebooks I still have Windows 7. 😆

Don’t ever submit!!
It’s just ‘THE MAN’ trying to get you….

😆😆😆😆😆😆
Although on a slightly more serious note I detest the way Microsoft has been trying with each new operating system to slowly take choices away from us as to how and when our computers update, scan for virus and malware, etc. I get the logic of their importance but at times my needs to get fast access to data on my PC supercedes the importance of updating and scanning.
