We have taken the 5 several times in the past but my wife has gotten tired of the very long stretch of nothing but desert with no absolutely service coupled with recent car jacking events near Gonzaga, so we now stick to the Transpeninsular all the way down.

The most difficult part is dealing with the traffic from Colonet to San Quintin so what we do now is just plan our stopovers there in San Quintin. We go out for a nice dinner and thenget a very early morning start the next day to avoid most of the traffic.

That way it really makes the trip/traffic not so much of an issue and we now really enjoy sticking to the Pacific side again.
