Didn’t they already do that one time before?

No although they have talked about it a few times.

The Baja 1000 has always (up until now) run from BC to BCS and most of the time has started in Ensenada but some years it started elsewhere including Tijuana, Mexicali and I think south of Ensenada at Santo Tomas. I also remember it finishing a few times at Cabo instead of La Paz.

      This will be interesting.

I wonder if it will easier/harder on the racers or just the same but in reverse?

I am not sure if it will be easier or harder but it will definitely be different. There are large sections where the drivers always drove in daylight where they may now be driving in the dark of night and vice versa. Plus, their vehicles get progressively more beat up along the length of the race and not sure if going N-S or S-N is easier on them in the second half of the race?

Pre-running this race may on a new sense of urgency because of the daylight/nightime conditions flip flopping.

The big change is that the race will go backwards on the course next year? Could somebody please explain why that is such a big deal? I must not understand car racing too much?

Everything changes. Imagine a 300 mile long, narrow, bumpy road that you drive once a year and always in daylight and always in the same direction. After a few years you start to feel like you know the road, more or less. Then one year you have to drive it going the other way and in the dark. I guarantee you that you will feel like it’s a road you have never been on before.
