This historic villa fronting the Malecon offers travelers to La Paz the opportunity to discover an oasis hidden behind the unassuming street entrance, leading to a fabulous chic hotel which was once the home of an affluent family connected to the area’s once-thriving pearl farming culture.

If you’re looking for arts, culture, and waterside adventure in Mexico, the Baja Club Hotel in La Paz delivers on all fronts. Behind the unassuming street facade lies a stately entryway providing an oasis for travelers who wish to have their accommodations serve as the ultimate retreat.

Stepping through the carved wooden doors reveals the interior of the original 1910 villa, which belonged to an affluent family steeped in the area’s once-thriving pearl farming culture. Although the heyday of La Paz’s pearling industry has long passed, the cream-colored facade pays homage to a bygone era.

I have been there for dinner and drinks with friends who stayed there – great views and ambience. After they checked out they said they enjoyed their stay but were surprised that they couldn’t get a better rate via an online discount broker – especially since the place was only about half full. That was awhile back and maybe their prices have come back down to earth.

We wanted to stay there but 5 nights would have eaten up too much of our vacation budget so we just went and had drinks and some snacks on the terrace. That wasn’t cheap either but gave us a great view and a glimpse into what the place is like.

Maybe when we’re retired and loaded 😆

Great plan. I shared this for those whose travel budget can afford it but I’m like you when I travel, always looking for ways to be able to enjoy some of the finer things without maxing out my credit cards. Going there for drinks and something to eat on the rooftop gave you a feel for the hotel experience and the fabulous view up must have been memorable.
