My aunt lives in another county and in her neighborhood, feral cats were taking down a lot of birds and one day it was either state or county animal control shows up setting out hundreds of traps for the cats, catching them and euthanizing them. This went on for a few weeks and it caused quite a stir, splitting the community down the middle. All hell broke loose when they mistakenly placed one of the traps on private property and caught the feline pet of a retired city councilwoman. Their policy said they were going to hold the cats for 72 hours but as it turns out they were putting them down as soon as they got back to wherever they were supposed to hold them. Probably too many cats to hold for that long. So the cats owner was alerted that her cat was trapped and she got there only to find her dead cat lying in a pile of other cats, still wearing her collar and tag. It’s a complicated issue and not sure exactly where I sit on this one.
