Interruptions to electrical service in Baja California Sur due to bad weather

The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) reported that, at 2:47 p.m. Central time (1:47 p.m. Pacific time) on September 28, 3 high-voltage lines went out of operation, due to the collapse of 4 structures at because of the strong rains and winds that occurred in the region.

This affected 133,022 users in the state of Baja California Sur, reported the state production company.

It has been possible to restore the supply to normal for the affected users, however, in the next few hours, according to the forecast of the National Center for Energy Control (CENACE), an increase in the demand for electricity is expected.

For this reason, and in order to maintain the stability of the electricity supply in the state of Baja California Sur, rotating supply interruptions were initiated for brief periods, in order not to cause major damages.

This strategy is due to the fact that the Electrical System of Baja California Sur is independent of the Interconnected System of the rest of the country, becoming susceptible to interruptions when generation units and high voltage lines go out of operation.
