New Mexican bank regs

Had to close my Mexican bank account at the Bancomer in Vizcaino. I went in to renew my debit card which expires in April and was told I can no longer have an account without a permanent residence card. FMM will no longer be adequate due to new regulations.

I just read this fairly straightforward article explaining the situation, but not how recently it changed: https://mexicorelocationguide.com/how-to-open-a-bank-account-in-mexico/

I’m either going to have to start using my Costco Citibank Visa (no International charge fees) for hotels, fuel, etc, and/or my Schwab debit card (again, they absorb any/all additional bank fees) for ATM cash. Either that, or I bite the bullet and apply for permanent residency – although I usually only spend 3-4 months per year in Baja! Viva Meh-hee-co!!!

I know it’s a hassle but it makes sense. When you consider all the information they have to manage and maintain on their customers and their transactions these days as well as make that information available to the government, they really do need to know who you really are beyond an FMM stub.

No need for a Mexican bank anyway:

I had heard about this app several months ago but was waiting to hear from someone who has some experience using it. Are you currently use the app @Tomas ?
