Latest: BCS goes to level 3 on COVID Health Alert
This new year has not started off well for the lower half of the Baja peninsula with a new wave of confirmed COVID cases causing some panic with local public health officials, reported to be more than 1,000 new cases per day for 5 consecutive days.
The spike is believed to be directly related to the omicron variant now spreading with new hospitalizations related to COVID also on the rise.
COVID related deaths – which had remained fairly stable until recent days are now also beginning to increase.
This afternoon, January 12, 2022 the state’s committee for COVID-19 met to assess the new data and as a result, voted to increase the COVID Health Alert status from Level 2 to Level 3 with the corresponding occupancy restrictions.
Among other restrictions, the occupancy of essential businesses is limited to 70%. Non-essential businesses may remain open with indoor operations limited to 60% occupancy and those operating in outdoor spaces limited to 70% occupancy. Businesses serving alcohol are now limited to 40% occupancy.
