If people would just maintain social distancing, the battle would be won

The article said it is not going to be mandatory, so no sweat. Besides, when we go down we don’t usually go to places with high densities of people and I actually prefer social distancing – I am not a touch-feely kind of guy. The best beach in the world is one where I am the only one on it.

I believe that many have continued to use face masks, even though most places no longer require them.

Here in San Quintin, the majority of the stores have removed their signs at the entrance requiring face masks but still have temp monitors and gel available. Many stores are still requiring their employees to wear face masks. I’d guesstimate that about half or a bit more of the people here wear their masks when indoors in public spaces today.

I just returned from Denver and in the north very few people are wearing masks now, only in closed spaces with many people inside, crowded together.

If they ask me to I will wear one but we really don’t stay in areas surrounded by large crowds of people so it’s really a non-issue for us.

Doctor Urges Public to Wear Face Masks as BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron Subvariants Spread
Two highly-transmissible mutations of the omicron COVID-19 variant are gaining traction across the country, including in the Chicago area, leading some doctors to recommended the use of face masks indoors once again.
The BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants now account for the majority of new COVID cases in the U.S., according to health officials. As of July 2, the subvariant BA.5 was responsible for nearly 54% of COVID cases. BA.4 accounted for nearly 17% more, data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed.
David Montefiori, a professor at the Human Vaccine Institute at Duke University Medical Center, told NBC News that BA.4 and BA.5 are about three times less sensitive to neutralizing antibodies from existing COVID vaccines than the original version of the omicron variant, BA.1. Additional research suggests that BA.4 and BA.5 are four times more resistant to antibodies from vaccines than BA.2.Two highly-transmissible mutations of the omicron COVID-19 variant are gaining traction across the country, including in the Chicago area, leading some doctors to recommended the use of face masks indoors once again.
