A good friend of mine living half the year in La Paz and the other half in Wyoming sold her Wyoming registered vehicle and bought a 2 year old BMW for a very good price with a factory extended warranty included in Tijuana last year. When she got down to La Paz she changed the BC registration to BCS and was able to get full coverage insurance that covers her both in the US and Mexico.
She is saving nearly half on the insurance and about 60% on the annual registration costs. I am thinking of doing the very same thing – less hassle and save money too!
