One thing the Americans could to help do would be not to pay the ridiculous rents they are asking for. The rent for one house on my block has now increased 5X over the what they asked for 3 years ago. Maybe we should make some guides to teach how to negotiate for rent.

Americans aren’t used to the idea of negotiating their rent. It’s supply and demand and complaining about it won’t change what is happening. Best to have a plan and react before it’s too late.

The housing situation in many parts of the states has gone crazy too with the ridiculous home prices in San Diego the cause of driving a lot of people south of the border trying to find affordable rents. The people being displaced in Tijuana will probably move somewhere else and cause the same thing. I don’t think this is an isolated thing.

Here on Cape Cod the housing shortage has impacted local restaurants, who have to close early or otherwise alter their schedules due to being short-staffed. My employer, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, has difficulty recruiting new graduates because rentals are either unavailable or unaffordable.

It actually looks like it’s starting to cool off in much of the U.S. An old friend who is a RE broker was hiring agents like crazy these last couple of years and opened 2 new offices. Just heard he is consolidating back to 2 offices and let some staff go as sales have really cooled off since summer.

Down around the southern tip of Baja the prices have seemed to level off as well although there does still seem to be some pretty good interest on the part of retirees/expat buyers with some areas a bit hotter than others.

It is just a tad bit ironic to hear Mexicans complaining about migration from America. Just saying.

And I suppose you didn’t think their feelings were hurt after enduring decades of sneers and chants of Mexicans go home? Now it gets your attention?
