It may be easier for retirees living down there to build such relationships but what are tourists like me to do? Just because my last name is Hispanic, sometimes people will ask me but I am usually just as clueless as they are. My great-grandfather was born in Mexico but came to Arizona as a young boy and we don’t really have much contact with any family down there anymore except for some distant cousin who stops by my aunts house once in awhile. Politicians everywhere lie today and that includes here in America. The last several years have showed us there’s more BS coming out of our leaders than any factual information.

Ron does a pretty good job of keeping us informed on Talk Baja on Facebook. If you don’t use social media then stick around here.

Everybody has to decide where their own comfort level is at and figure out how to best inform themselves of what is really going on down there. What’s happening in Tijuana or Mexicali may have little effect on San Quintin, BOLA or Asuncion and simply crossing at Tecate may mitigate a lot of the potential issues most of the time.
