Mexico doesn't send out travel alerts for violence in US
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador accused his opponents of trying to “create the perception that the country is on fire.”
He also responded to the US ambassador, Ken Salazar, that his administration “does not send warnings to Mexicans not to travel to the United States, “in spite of unfortunate acts of violence in that country, such as shootings and assaults.
Washington’s envoy said Thursday that it is time for results in terms of security in Mexico and that the Mexican population deserves to live without fear.
Without explicitly referring to Salazar, López Obrador commented that he understands and respects “the US authorities very much, and of course I love the American people very much”, but “we are different, we have different ways of looking at things, that is why we are independent countries and that is why we must respect our sovereignties”.
