A new police chief for San Felipe – a military officer

Great news for those of us who love to spend time in San Felipe. Frankly I felt things went downhill under the outgoing chief. A friend’s motorcycle was stolen there last year and the police seemed to show little interest or concern. A military man is probably just what the area needs right now.

Personally I think this is good news but this leaves me wondering what happening to Morena’s campaign promise to put the military back in the barracks?

It all comes down to how much support he will really get? If Mexico City made a deal with the cartels to move through that area, he’d best just tow the party line and stay out of their way. Or this could signal that the Federal government is really serious about breaking the cartel control there and we’ll see more troops and naval presence to back him up.

I’m hopeful but still a bit pessimistic, wondering if this isn’t just changing the curtains, and nothing more.

And so how are we supposed to know whether this is just for show or if they are really serious about reducing crime? I am wondering if we should just avoid San Felipe until the dust settles and see who is left standing?

I did some googling and found an article where he is referred to as a “no-nonsense officer who gets the job done”. Sounds exactly like what SF needs right now.
