Shorter Wait Times at San Ysidro Border?

I welcome a woman to run the SY border. Men have been completely screwing it up for the last 30 years since I started crossing there and she certainly couldn’t do a worse job. I think it’s a plus that she grew up close to the border- she understands the real impact that long border line waits create for people here in the states and in Mexico.

I get really mad too when I see so many closed lanes, especially when I see a large group of agents out in the traffic lanes all huddled together, just talking and passing the time.

Of course a woman can do it better than a man, men can focus on only one thing at a time. Women have to simultaneously worry about their kids and their health, getting to school, their homework, after school activities, drugs, buying groceries, paying bills, keeping the house clean, washing clothes, ironing, cooking meals, packing lunches, dry cleaning and a lot more.

Men worry about getting to work on time and what flirty thing they will say to the new secretary today.

My husband can’t even get out of the house in the morning without me following him around to remind him that his socks don’t match, to put this on, take that with him, find his keys, etc. Not saying that a man couldn’t do it but so far none have.

I watched the new director in a news interview the other night and I believe she will do a very good job. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed.

One thing I have learned over the years is to never make the mistake of underestimating a woman. My guess is that this new port director will feel the weight of a lot of eyes watching her as the first ever woman to hold the position and I am betting that she will pull it off.

Me too, and if she is successful, all of us who cross the border often will win too!

We have never used the pedestrian crossing but I can see where it would be important to those who live and have businesses along that area. I do get upset at seeing so many closed crossing lanes heading north when the lines are so long. Only on rare occasions have I seen any of the second booths in the lanes functioning – maybe once or twice.

We don’t need to build a bigger port crossing or build a new one a few miles east, we just need for them to hire enough people to be able to keep ALL of the lanes open and the second booths staffed when the lines are longer. I swear they could cut the wait times down to less than an hour on even the heaviest border traffic days if they did.
