On the old 8’ Alaskan that I gave to my daughter and her family I had been using the space between the camper and the truck bed to smuggle parts and supplies down to our La Paz clinic. Over the past many years (we started the clinic in 2004, with a 5 year commitment to the La Balandra Rotary Club, but still going strong!). I’ve been doing this twice a year, and so far have not been caught nor hassled by Aduana. Of course, I’ve always gotten letters from the Rotary Club and political figures like the Secretary of Special Education for Baja Sur, the Mayor of La Paz, etc, explaining what all of the stuff would be used for and how it wouldn’t have any effect on the Mexican economy as the people who we provide service for are not able to pay for these type of services elsewhere. I figure that if I ever do get caught by Aduana I would just play the “dumb gringo” and say I thought the letters covered my bringing the supplies into Mexico. So far, so good!
