    Thread Introduction

I had posted this years ago when we first began our LAST home build back in 2008 on the old Talk Baja forum that I started almost 15 years ago and just today I came across my archives of the old forum, including all of these posts.
Looking back now, it was really probably larger than what I should have taken on as a semi-self builder project (I had hired help but I did all the design work and onsite project management as well as laboring alongside my crew each day during every step of the project.

So I decided to “reincarnate” this old thread again here on TalkBaja.com v2.
It’s really quite amazing to me to look back on it all and a bit funny to re-read some of what I posted back then. But it is also a nice revisit to see where my mindset was at, back at that time.
In fact, looking back on it all now I really can’t believe I actually pulled it off and really glad that I didn’t know how much work it really was going to be, BEFORE I got started!

So, without any further ado, let’s get (re)started…

This is absolutely beautiful! Do you know any architects? We are getting ready to begin plans on building in a little property in Primo Tapia, Rosarito. Thanks in advance.

Here is the guy you should contact for your upcoming home build – he’s an awesome architect and comes very highly recommended to me from people I know and trust 100%.

Good luck! You can start your own construction thread here once your home building project gets underway…

What are your thoughts on the differences in your approach now compared to back then? Would you tackle a similar project today, knowing what you do now?

      That’s actually a very good question…

There are several things I probably would do different in retrspect, but they are mostly just minor inconveniences such as an additional outlet somewhere, etc. Probably the biggest thing I would have done different is to have created a larger, enclosed patio area for BBQs and get togethers with friends.

While the area we built looks and works great, it’s really only designed for about 12 to 14 people maximum and even after some minor remodeling to a step down storage area to convert it into a semi-private conversation area that can accommodate another 4 or 5 people, we still end up having to restrict our invites accordingly. If I could go back in time, I’d probably have made it twice as large.

People love to get together with friends down here and most of them accept your invites, even on short notice. That’s quite different from my life up north of the border where most people simply don’t have time in their busy schedules for such short notice get togethers.

Everything else about the house I love and we continue to enjoy after all these years…
